A SLAP tear or SLAP lesion is an injury to the glenoid labrum (fibrocartilaginous rim attached around the margin of the glenoid cavity). SLAP is an acronym for "superior labral tear from anterior to posterior". There are several cases of SLAP like the Degenerative bucket-handle tears, anteroinferior bankart lesion etc. Most common symptoms are dull, throbbing, ache in the joint, difficulty sleeping due to shoulder discomfort, for athletes involved in a throwing sport such as baseball, paint and a catching feeling, or loss of strength or significantly decreased velocity in throwing. All Island Orthopedics in Astoria and Bayside, are specializing in slap lesion and SLAP tear treatments. While surgery can be performed as a traditional open procedure, we are in favor of an arthroscopic technique because it is less intrusive with low chance of iatrogenic infection.

Every surgery requires some preparation. Removing the anxiety is one of our top priorities, from medication and home planning to recovery and rehabilitation, our team of orthopedic physicians are here to help and will guide you through every step.

The All Island Orthopedics team wishes its patients in College Point a speedy and full recovery.
