A SLAP tear or SLAP lesion is an injury to the glenoid labrum. SLAP is an acronym for "superior labral tear from anterior to posterior". The shoulder joint is a 'ball and socket' joint. However, the socket is small, covering at most only a third of the ball. A SLAP tear or lesion occurs when there is damage to the superior (uppermost) area of the labrum. Athletes are often involved in overhead and throwing activities, and in turn and they subject to labral injuries. Symptoms might be dull, throbbing, ache in the joint, difficulty sleeping due to shoulder discomfort, for the athletes, loos of strength or a significant decrease in velocity in throwing.
